 Call to Worship  (Clergy Stuff)

 LEADER:          We gather together in Jesus’ name.
ALL:                  Open us to your presence, dear Jesus.
LEADER:           He is here among us now.
ALL:                  Equip us to sense you in one another.

Opening Prayer (Clergy Stuff)

 God of radical welcome,
Cure us of our inability to understand your truth in our lives. Cure us of our inability to find your face in our neighbors. Cure us of our inability to sense your presence in the natural world. Open our eyes, minds, and hearts that we might respond in joyful labor for the sake of all that you have made. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

*Opening Song         Shine, Jesus, Shine                           TFWS 2173

Refrain

Shine, Jesus, shine,
fill this land with
the Father’s glory,
blaze, Spirit, blaze,
set our hearts on fire;
flow, river, flow,
flood the nations
with grace and mercy,
send forth your word,
Lord, and let there be light.

  1. Lord, the light of your
    love is shining
    in the midst of the
    darkness shining;
    Jesus, Light of the
    World, shine upon us,
    set us free by the
    truth you now bring us.
    Shine on me,
    shine on me.

Refrain

Shine, Jesus, shine,
fill this land with
the Father’s glory,
blaze, Spirit, blaze,
set our hearts on fire;
flow, river, flow,
flood the nations
with grace and mercy,
send forth your word,
Lord, and let there be light.

  1. Lord, I come to your
    awesome presence
    from the shadows
    into your radiance;
    by the blood I may
    enter your brightness,
    search me, try me,
    consume all my darkness.
    Shine on me,
    shine on me.

Refrain

Shine, Jesus, shine,
fill this land with
the Father’s glory,
blaze, Spirit, blaze,
set our hearts on fire;
flow, river, flow,
flood the nations
with grace and mercy,
send forth your word,
Lord, and let there be light.

  1. As I gaze on your
    kingly brightness,
    so our faces
    display your likeness;
    ever changing from
    glory to glory,
    mirrored here may our
    lives tell your story.
    Shine on me,
    shine on me.

Refrain

Shine, Jesus, shine,
fill this land with
the Father’s glory,
blaze, Spirit, blaze,
set our hearts on fire;
flow, river, flow,
flood the nations
with grace and mercy,
send forth your word,
Lord, and let there be light.

RESPONDING

*Sermon Song  Amazing Grace       UMH 378

  1. Amazing grace!
    How sweet the sound
    that saved a
    wretch like me!
    I once was lost,
    but now am found;
    was blind, but now I see.
  1. ’Twas grace that taught
    my heart to fear,
    and grace my
    fears relieved;
    how precious did
    that grace appear
    the hour I first believed.
  1. Through many dangers,
    toils, and snares,
    I have already come;
    ’tis grace hath brought
    me safe thus far,
    and grace will
    lead me home.
  1. The Lord has promised
    good to me,
    his word my
    hope secures;
    he will my shield
    and portion be
    as long as life endures.
  1. Yea, when this flesh
    and heart shall fail,
    and mortal
    life shall cease,
    I shall possess,
    within the veil,
    a life of joy and peace.
  1. When we’ve been there
    ten thousand years,
    bright shining
    as the sun,
    we’ve no less days
    to sing God’s praise
    than when
    we’d first begun.

Prayers of the People

God of light, hear our prayers.

The Lord’s Prayer (Spoken)

All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.

 *Offering Response   Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow   (UMH 94)

 *Prayer of Dedication  (Clergy Stuff)

All: Generous God, we have experienced and known the truth that you give us our daily bread. In gratitude and joy we return to you this portion of what you have provided to us. Use these gifts that all of creation might know your love in action. Amen.

SENDING

 *Closing Song Be Thou My Vision UMH 451

  1. Be thou my vision,
    O Lord of my heart;
    naught be all else to me,
    save that thou art.
    Thou my best thought,
    by day or by night,
    waking or sleeping,
    thy presence my light.
  1. Be thou my wisdom,
    and thou my true word;
    I ever with thee
    and thou with me, Lord;
    thou and thou only,
    first in my heart,
    great God of heaven,
    my treasure thou art.
  1. Great God of heaven,
    my victory won,
    may I reach heaven’s joys,
    O bright heaven’s Sun!
    Heart of my own heart,
    whatever befall,
    still be my vision,
    O Ruler of all.
