Welcome and Announcements

 Invitation and Sharing of Peace

Peace be with you. And also with you.

Prelude   All Who Are Thirsty   Rejuvenate

Lighting of the Altar Candles

 Call to Worship  (Clergy Stuff)

 LEDER:         We are thirsty for your justice, O God.

ALL:              Quench our thirst,
LEADER:       So that out of our hearts,
ALL:               Shall flow rivers of living water.

 Opening Prayer (Clergy Stuff)

 All: Holy God, Too often we are so dazzled by the images with which we are constantly bombarded that we do not see the simple truth of your call. Shake us out of our distraction and focus our attention on what matters: justice, equity, and flourishing for all your beloved creation. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

 *Opening Song Make Me a Channel of Your Peace  ( TFWS 2171)

1. Make me a channel
of your peace.
Where there is hatred,
let me bring your love,
Where there is injury,
your pardon, Lord,
and where there’s doubt,
true faith in you.

2. Make me a channel
of your peace.
Where there’s
despair in life,
let me bring hope.
Where there is darkness,
only light,
and where there’s sadness,
ever joy.

3. Oh, Master, grant that
I may never seek
so much to be consoled
as to console,to be understood
as to understand,
to be loved
as to love
with all my soul.

4. Make me a channel
of your peace.
It is in pardoning
that we are pardoned,
In giving of ourselves
that we receive,
and in dying that
we’re born to eternal life.

 RESPONDING

 *Sermon Song   Let There Be Peace on Earth  (UMH 431)

Let there be peace on earth,
and let it begin with me;
let there be peace on earth,
the peace that was
meant to be.

With God our creator,
children all are we.
Let us walk
with each other
in perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me;
let this be
the moment now.
With every step I take,
let this be
my solemn vow:

to take each moment
and live each moment
in peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth,
and let it begin with me.

Prayers of the People

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer

 The Lord’s Prayer   (spoken)

 All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.

 *Offering Response   Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow   (UMH 94)

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow
Praise God, all creatures here below
Alleluia alleluia
Praise God, the source of all our gifts
Praise Jesus Christ, whose power uplifts
Praise the Spirit, Holy Spirit
Alleluia alleluia alleluia

 *Prayer of Dedication  (Clergy Stuff)

God, you satisfy our hunger, quench our thirst, and fill us with all good things. In gratitude, we return these, our gifts and our tithes, to your work of justice and peace for all the world, in and through Jesus’ Christ our redeemer.  Amen.

SENDING

 *Closing Song God of the Ages   (UMH 698)

  1. God of the ages,
    whose almighty hand
    leads forth in beauty
    all the starry band
    of shining worlds
    in splendor
    through the skies,
    our grateful songs
    before thy throne arise.

  2. Thy love divine
    hath led us in the past;
    in this free land
    with thee our lot is cast;
    be thou our ruler,
    guardian, guide, and stay,
    thy Word our law,
    thy paths our chosen way.

  3. From war’s alarms,
    from deadly pestilence,
    be thy strong arm
    our ever sure defense;
    thy true religion
    in our hearts increase;
    thy bounteous goodness
    nourish us in peace.

  4. Refresh thy people
    on their toilsome way;
    lead us from night
    to never-ending day;
    fill all our lives
    with love and grace divine,
    and glory, laud,
    and praise be ever thine.
