“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me” – Matthew 25:35
Weekend Backpack Program
The Arnolia Family provides weekend meals to a number of students at an elementary school in our neighborhood. These lunches are provided to children who participate in the “Free Lunch Program”, and the goal is to provide enough meals for the weekend for each child. This is one way Arnolia seeks to help fight hunger in our community by making sure our schoolchildren have something to eat over the weekend.
Manna House
We support Manna House, which has been serving the poor and homeless of Baltimore for 44 years. Since the inception of the agency we have embraced the holistic approach for providing services, be they physical, emotional, mental or spiritual; we have incorporated understanding while responding to societal ills. The clients we serve are faced with poverty, homelessness, mental illness and drug addiction, followed by HIV/AIDS, spousal abuse, and other chronic diseases.
Baltimore County Christian Workcamp
Arnolia loves installing ramps for people who need accessibility improvements to their homes. We work with the Baltimore County Christian Work Camp. We have a great team of volunteers, including all of our youth and some congregation members! We appreciate and are thankful to those that helped fund supplies so that we were able to give back to a member of our community. Our crew looks forward to doing this again next year and for many more years to come!”
Arnolia and ACTC
We support the Assistance Center of Towson Churches, which offers an ecumenical program that provides help to poor and needy families in our community. It began as the result of a study conducted by the Towson Area Ministerial Association exploring an effective and efficient way to meet the needs of people coming to churches requesting help. Fourteen churches joined together to form ACTC. A consortium of 48 churches now participate in the outreach effort.
Arnolia Thrift Shop and Outreach Program
Arnolia U.M. Church Outreach Program serves hundreds of families, seniors, veterans, and single parents each year. Our clients are recommend to us from Baltimore Social Services, other area churches and word of mouth.
According to Time Magazine’s April 2014 Issue, 40% of Americans identify themselves as lower of lower-middle class, up from 25% in 2008.
We assist with eviction prevention, BGE turn-offs,toiletries, food and school supplies. We offer names and phone numbers of other agencies, churches and organizations that offer assistance also. Funds for our clients come from proceeds from Arnolia’s Thrift Store. Clients call our church and our two volunteers set appointments and we meet with them every two weeks. Most of our clients are employed but cannot make ends meet. Many single parents do not receive any funds from their child(children’s) fathers. Many seniors are trying to by on social security only. The needs are great and we feel that we are fulfilling our church mission by providing for those in need. We give tax deductible receipts on all donations.
