Arnolia United Methodist Church

“Following Jesus, Making Disciples, Serving Others!”

From the desk of…Rev. Mary Ellen Bowers Glorioso, Pastor

Thank you for visiting the website of Arnolia United Methodist Church.  Arnolia may sound like an unusual name, an especially unique name for a church.  The name of our church was derived from two trees which grew on the property: ARbutus and MagNOLIA; thus the name Arnolia.  I believe, since God created the trees, we could not have chosen a better way to honor God's creation!  Being unique in name—we are remembered!

I have been blessed to serve three congregations since receiving my call to ordained ministry.  As a student pastor, I served Canton UMC which was located in Canton, Baltimore City for two years.  Upon my graduation from Wesley Theological Seminary (Washington, DC) in 1998, I was sent to serve full time at Oakland UMC in Sykesville (Carroll County).  I remained there for thirteen years before being appointed to serve at Arnolia beginning on July 1, 2011.  Before entering ministry, I was a stay at home mom for several years, then a teacher in the Baltimore County (Perry Hall Middle) and Baltimore City (Barclay) Public School systems.  I am a graduate of Towson University and the Institute of Notre Dame in addition to Wesley Theological Seminary.

The Arnolia UMC congregation is widely divergent in ages with infants through senior citizens comprising our membership.  We have two worship services.  The 9am service is contemporary and the music is provided by Rejuvenate, our praise band.  It is a more casual service and is attended by both young and our more “seasoned” members and friends as well.  The 11am service is traditional in structure.  A children's message is included each week at both services.  Jarrett Rettman is our newly hired Director of Music Ministries.  He is a talented young man who formerly directed our praise team, Rejuvenate.  He has now been entrusted with our entire music program comprised of the praise band, Rejuvenate, Chancel  choir and Arnolia Ringers (bells).  We always welcome new members to our music programs and to the congregation.

Our Arnolia Family takes our mission statement to heart: “Following Jesus, Making Disciples, Serving Others.”  We believe in helping others and are involved in several outreach ministries.  Many churches say they are friendly, but we really are!!  We welcome visitors and new members into our Christian fellowship and invite everyone to become involved in our many ministries.  We have opportunities for spiritual development/formation, fellowship, music and mission.  Arnolia is always seeking more ways to meet the needs of an ever changing 21st century world.

We recently welcomed the Woodhome Preschool and daycare to our facilities under the leadership of Sunny Fisher.  If you are seeking quality childcare and learning experiences for your children aged 2-5 years, please consider Woodhome.  They can be reached at 410-668-7587.

Please take time to peruse our website.  Check us out on Facebook as well.  We are here to make a difference in our community, nation and world.  We welcome you to come and be a part of our Christian Family!

In Christ's Service,

Pastor Mary Ellen
